A Million Dollar Lesson In The Profitability Of Self-Publishing From Louis C.K

Comedian Louis C.K is not only hilarious, but he’s laughing all the way to the bank. As of Dec 21 he’s made $1 million dollars from this lesson in self-publishing that all artists, writers and creative types every where can learn from.

How exactly did he do this?

Louis decided to take his most recent concert video Live at The Beacon Theatre and make it available for download for just $5 through Paypal directly from his website.

I don’t imagine that many artists (especially established artists) would take the risk of promoting themselves and publishing their art for profit in this manner.

They would wait for some large company to sign a deal with them to produce, package, and distribute their product for them, and then walk away with a small profit.

Here is how Louis C.K’s situation is different:

• He had 50,000 purchases within the first 12 hours earning over $250,000
• There is no copy protection on the video, Louis CK fans can watch the video as much as they want, and also copy, share, or burn the concert to DVD
• Louis kept the full rights, he owns the video.

When I first read about this story in one of my local newspapers he had already sold over 100000 copies, and was up to $500,000 in profits. On a recent update on his website he shows a snapshot of his Paypal account showing that he’s reached the $1 million mark.

If you’re still not convinced that you can make a lot of money selling information or in this case entertainment online, this should be undeniable proof.

Michael Senoff’s 25 Free Interviews With Copywriting Experts

I found Michael Senoff’s Hard to find seminars years ago. Michael has become one of my favourite Marketing guru’s.

On his website Michael has hundreds of audio interviews with marketers, copywriters, and all sorts of other entrepreneurs.

Recently he’s being charging small amounts of money for some of the interviews he’s conducted, but nearly all of the interviews on his website are free to stream and listen! You can download the audio interviews to your computer or Ipod and the PDF transcripts too if you prefer to read the interviews.

But for the sake of this blog, and my readers I am only concerned with the audio interviews that have to do with Copywriting. I am on Micheal’s mailing list, and I recently got an email from him reminding me of the 25 free copywriting interviews on his website.

Here’s the link.

My Short Tribute to Copywriting Legend, Bob Bly

It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been writing eventually you will discover copywriting and marketing legend Robert W. Bly, or Bob Bly…if you haven’t already. If you don’t know much about Bob Bly here is a brief introduction from my perspective.

Bob Bly is a guru in the copywriting and direct-response marketing industry. I hate the word guru, but if anybody deserves the title it’s him.

Bob has published over 50 books. The first two books I read on copywriting were Bob’s they were:

The Copywriter’s Handbook

Secrets of a Freelance Writer

Bob’s column in the back of Writer’s Digest introduced me to the world of copywriting. Before I had seen his column, I had no idea what copywriting was, and I didn’t know that writers could make six-figures a year. Bob made me a believer and turned me on to the world of copywriting .

He isn’t the only guru I’ll pay tribute to (subscribe to my blog). I will write about other copywriting legends in future posts, but to me he is one of the top people you should study if you want to learn how to write great copy or become a master marketer.

You can start with the two books I mentioned above, here is a list of more books he’s published from his blog.

If you sign up to his newsletter not only will he send you practical information you can start applying right away to your writing and marketing, you’ll also get e-mails promoting his information products. Each one of his information products have their own landing page. You don’t have to purchase every e-book he promotes through his newsletter but if you study the landing pages you’ll see how his style of writing makes you want to buy (I have purchased quite a few).

His free reports and e-mails always contain tons of nuggets of valuable information. I usually can’t wait to read Bob’s newsletter.

His newsletter is one of the few that I actually read. Click here to subscribe to it.

Here is the link to his website , and here is the link to his blog.

That is my short tribute to Robert W. Bly. What do you think of Bob Bly?
